Hey, My name is Jacob Copeland and I’m currently a junior in college at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. I am majoring in economics, with a supporting focus in data analytics. When I am not studying at school, I am most likely running (or eating)!
I started seriously running at the end of my junior year in high school. I had always enjoyed running, but more so as a part of other sports – not necessarily as a sport of its own. I played baseball as well as other sports growing up, and my teammates would always curse me when I would ask for more running at the end of practices. It wasn’t until I watched my step-dad run the Chicago Marathon for the second time that I decided to really get into running. I wanted to be part of the community.
The next year at age 17, I completed my first marathon, the 2013 Chicago Marathon. I had never felt the feeling of accomplishment like I did that morning, after months of training and hundreds of miles leading up to that moment. That feeling has encouraged me to continue running and has led to more running accomplishments, but I still have a number of running goals than I am constantly working toward.
I think what I love most about running is the never-ending competition with oneself, always striving to be better today than I was yesterday. I have only recently started working at Breakaway, but I already feel like part of the family! The Breakaway Running community helped me so much when I was finding my enjoyment in running, and now I am fortunate enough to help others in our community find that same enjoyment.
